Endocrinology is a specialty that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to hormones.

Endocrine hormones are vital in the maintenance of metabolism, reproduction, perception, movement and respiration. The structures that secrete these hormones are called endocrine glands.

The most common endocrine disorder afflicting our general population is diabetes mellitus, which is related to a disorder of the pancreatic glands.

Other glands include adrenal, hypothalamus, thyroid, thymus, pituitary, parathyroid, pineal.

A disorder in any of these hormones may have an adverse effect in both the quality and quantity of our lives. Most of these conditions can be managed with medication.
